About the Exam


JEE main is the first level or preliminary exam conducted for inducting students into premium institutes of science and technology in the country. Namely NITs and IITs. Whoever wished to get into these colleges for doing their graduation in science and technology have to write this exam mandatorily.
From 2019 onwards JEE main and NTA will conduct JEE advanced (National Testing Agency) previously it used to be held by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education). The condition to appear for the exam is that applicants should secure at least 75%. The exam will be conducted twice a year and candidates can appear twice, and the higher score will be considered.


Eligibility Criteria

If you are planning on applying for the JEE main examination, make sure you meet all the required criteria mentioned below.


Age Requirement: 

Even though there is no age limit like before for the exam the candidate should have passed the 10+2 equivalent examination in 2017, 2018 or must be appearing for the exam on 2019.


Educational Requirement: 

All the candidates appearing for the examination should have completed their higher secondary education (10+2) during 2017 or 2018. Or he/she should appear the exam in 2019.


Subject Requirement: 

Candidates appearing for the examination should have taken for their higher secondary education the following subjects. Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Technical Vocational Subject, Language and any other subject


Qualifying marks: 

Candidates must score a minimum of 75% for his final board exams or should be in the top 20 percentile. SC/ST candidates have to score a minimum of 65%. For admission for architecture courses, the minimum marks should be 50 %.

Application Process: 

If you wish to apply for the exam, you can take the following steps. The application can be filled online and offline.

For male candidates, the application fee is 500 rupees if they are General or OBC category.

And for Female and transgender candidates of all categories and male candidates of SC/ST category, the fee is 250 rupees. Candidates can pay the money through net banking, credit card, debit card, bank challan etc.

The application form can be filled online and consists of many steps.

1. Register using valid ID proof (Aadhar, passport, Driving License or any other valid GOVT ID proof).

2. Enter all the required details like academic details and personal details.

3. Upload necessary documents in the required format such as Signatures and Photo.

After all these steps you can make the payment and wait for your application to get approved.

After the application, the NTA will provide a specific date for you if you have any corrections to make in your application. During that time, you can re-enter the details and resubmit the application for the last time.


JEE main Syllabus



JEE main cover portions from 3 sections namely physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. For specific portions you can refer the application site or http://www.cbse.nic.in which is the official CBSE website.

JEE Main Admit Card



After your application is processed, you will get your JEE main admit card which can be downloaded and scanned. You will need this to attend the examination. You will get an email notification if you have given your email address in the details you are provided.

Candidates will get the username and password to get their JEE main admit cards online. You should attach your photograph and be sure to check if all the details given in the JEE mains admit card is correct.


JEE Mains Exam Pattern



For Paper 1 that is for the B-tech course the exam will computer-based and will be for 3 hours. There JEE mains exam will be held in two shift that is a morning shift and an afternoon shift. The exam will have three sections namely Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The test will be of Multiple-choice questions. Each section will contain 30 questions each. Therefore, there will be a total of 90 questions. Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks, and one mark will be deducted as a penalty for each incorrect answer.

For the B-Arch the exam will be a little will be different. There will be a computer-based aptitude and mathematics test and an offline drawing exam. Rest the marking is the same as the b-tech examination. It will be of a duration of 3 hours. It will have three sections — aptitude with 50 questions, mathematics with 30 questions and three questions that test your drawing skills. The marking pattern is the same with a total of 70 marks.

JEE main 2019 Exam Centres

JEE main is conducted in almost all major cities. There are almost 467 exam centres in 258 cities across the country. Check the list of centres on the main site so you can know which the nearest centre to you is for writing the examination.


JEE main Cut-off

The JEE main 2019 cut off marks will only be known after NTA publishes the same. But we can compare it with previous years cut-offs and get an idea of the average trend.

JEE main cut off 2019 percentile will almost be comparable to the previous year cut-offs. You can also refer the 2018 cut-off percentages.



Downloading answer keys for JEE mains 2019

The JEE mains 2019 answer keys can be download within weeks of the exam. Various sources provide answer keys and solved papers which can be used for your reference.
Publishing of Results 
The JEE mains 2019 results will be published after one month of examination tentatively. You can track this from the official site of examination or the website of CBSE  – CBSE.nic.in and get the results by logging into the official site using your application number and password.
